Lending a helping hand to the voiceless
Chennai: The fire that ravaged huts in Besant Nagar here in the early hours of Wednesday also caused a distress among the cats, dogs and hens raised by the residents.
A doctor and his team from Society For Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA) treated two dogs which suffered burn injuries. “When I reached the site of the blast with three of my staff, animals in shock were running helter skelter.
Two dogs were injured on their neck and feet because of the fire,” said R. Sokkalingam of SPCA.
Some of the injured animals were treated on the spot and Sokkalingam brought the two dogs to SPCA hospital at Vepery for care and rehabilitation.
“It was a sad sight to see the dogs howling in pain and their masters had fled from the fire. the dogs suffered burns as they were chained” added Sokkalingam.
“The rescued animals were found dehydrated and will be under the
supervision of SPCA for the next few days. Once their condition improves, they would be set free at Besant Nagar Beach,” he said.
