Mudasarlova reservoir dumped with garbage
Visakhapatnam: Mudasarlova reservoir, one of the main sources of drinking water to Vizag is being contaminated with the dumping of wastes into it and construction debris around it.
Health City is being developed near the water reservoir in the city. During a visit to the reservoir area, plastic bottles and other waste products were found floating on the water. The water appeared fully contaminated with deposition of dirt.
Some residents staying near to the reservoir alleged that people are throwing the waste into the water body unaware of its importance. They also urged the civic body to take some measures to check dumping of wastes. They also pointed out the left out construction debris from the Health City area being dumped around the reservoir.
Many buffaloes were also seen being washed in the reservoir water. R. Usha, a resident near the reservoir area, said animal wastes create water pollution, such as when cattle or sheep are allowed to graze near water bodies.
Wastes deposited by the animals can introduce nutrients and disease-causing organisms into the water, posing problems for aquatic organisms as well as human populations that use the water.
