Rare 46-cm snake found at Nehru Zoological Park, released safely

The snake was rescued by the reptile house-keepers of the zoo.

Hyderabad: A rare snake species was found in the vicinity of Nehru Zoological Park on Wednesday.

The snake was rescued by the reptile house-keepers of the zoo. It was identified as the Yellow Collared Wolf Snake by the zoo veterinary section. The snake was found to be 46 centimeters in length.

Curator of the zoo Ms Shivanni Dogra said, “The snake was released safely into the zoo campus after it was keenly examined,”

“Little is known about the snake’s history. We will get a clearer picture about the species’ distribution range in South India by examining the earlier records,” she added. Speaking more about the reptiles she said snakes such as Indian Rat Snake, Common Wolf Snake, Russell’s Viper, Common Bronzeback Tree Snake have been released into the wild after rescued from the zoo.
