As the Met Gala 2025 took place this Monday, it has created a buzz across the internet, with stars showing up with their most iconic looks.
People are talking about the stylish fits that celebrities from different cinemas wore, keeping their fashion game one level up.
However, the Met Gala isn't just about the breathtaking fits; it's much more than that. It is one of the biggest nights of fashion, where cultures, styles, and the star power from across the world come under one roof: the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The theme for the 2025 Met Gala is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." It goes hand-in-hand with the Met's spring exhibition, celebrating the history of Black fashion and dandyism.
As per the theme, stars showed up wearing couture with sharp tailoring and rich fabrics that revealed a lot about elegance, identity, and heritage.
The theme was inspired by Slaves to Fashion by Monica Miller.
The fashion legend, Anna Wintour, is back with a star-studded line-up of co-chairs. This year, the team also included actor Colman Domingo, Formula One champ Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, rap royalty, and pharell Williams.
Well, not just that, American professional basketball player LeBron James is also on board as the honorary co-chair.
Stars show up with elegant and, at times, quirky outfits made from scratch by world-famous designers.
After ascending the iconic steps and showcasing their looks on the red carpet (blue carpet this year), guests enter the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the main event.
All the guests mingle at one place first for a cocktail hour, where they also explore the Costume Institute's exhibition, which aligns with the theme of the year.
Later, guests proceed for a formal dinner featuring high-end cuisine. This year the menu was designed by Chef Kwame Onwuachi!
For the dinner, the celebrities, designers, and influencers are seated strategically to maximize the connections and media buzz.
Post-dinner, there is a performance by a major artist or a group to entertain the elite audience.
Post-gala, most of the guests attend the after-parties, hosted by celebrities, venues, or brands across New York City.
The after-parties usually steal the limelight as they are less formal and more glamorous, where people dance and socialize.
The event is a fundraising event for the Costume Institute. Hence, the focus is more on fashion, philanthropy, and art. But the star-studded after-parties often capture the spotlight.
Meanwhile, there are some strict guidelines that attendees have to follow during the gala event. In fact, an additional rule has been added this year with respect to the dinner served at the Met.
The rule is:
No garlic, No Onion, and No Parsley
Although the Met Gala dinner has to slay, from this year onward there won't be messy bites or strong flavours of garlic, onions, and parsley. The rule has been added to avoid any kind of bad breath issues or green things stuck in between the teeth.
Furthermore, any kind of food that can stain the breathtaking couture of the celebrities, such as bruschetta, won't be served.
The other rules are:
No Phones and Selfies
Since 2015, there has been a strict no phones, no selfies rule so the night can be intimate with no distraction.
Seating Arrangements
Seating arrangements at the Met Gala are a meticulously planned show. Anna Wintour spent weeks arranging the guest list with her team by looking at the chemistry and past beefs to avoid any kind of drama.
No Smoking
Since 2003, there's been a rule of no smoking anywhere inside the venue to preserve the artifacts of the museum and to not set the highly expensive dresses on fire.
Entry fee
Although all the guests attend by invite only, still the cost of tickets per seat is 75,000 dollars, and for the table, the price is 350,000.
Even after that, attendees have no control over seating arrangements, as Anna still runs the seating chart.
The guests only pay for the privilege of showing up, not for curating the tables.
However, most of the time, celebrities don't pay for their own tickets. Fashion designers, brands, and companies purchase the tables and invite celebrities to attend after approval from Anna Wintour, who in turn wears their designed couture, and they get the exposure at the red carpets.
Security
As the celebs across the world attend the gala event, there will be tight security as the New York Police Department enforces an extensive frozen zone around the venue, including drones, license plate scanners, and rooftop snipers. All the security arrangements are made to keep the event safe from any kind of chaos.
