As reported in the Annals of Internal Medicine: Clinical Cases, a 60-year-old man from New York was admitted to the Emergency Room after following a diet plan which was generated by ChatGPT. It was noted that the man, who had no previous medical history, depended on ChatGPT for nutritional guidance.
The diet plan advised the man to substitute sodium chloride with sodium bromide in his daily food intake. He followed the substitution and suggested diet by Chat GPT for more than 3 months with the belief that it cannot give incorrect information.
He used Bromide as a substitution for salt after buying it from an online store, which resulted in some major changes to the body while being unaware about the toxicity of its heavy dosage.
Over the course of three months, the person experienced many neurological symptoms, paranoia, hallucinations, and confusion, which required immediate medical attention. Ultimately, he was admitted to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a rare condition, called bromide toxicity.
Apart from being sick, he showed signs of physical symptoms such as bromoderma, an acne-like skin eruption, and red spots, like rashes on his body.
The man was recovered after three weeks of medical care and restoring electrolyte balance. However, the case raised serious questions of misinformation from AI chatbots such as ChatGPT.
Although AI chatbots can offer a substantial amount of information, to make any health-related decision, it is essential to verify the accuracy of the facts or seek professional advice before., The technology hasn't yet evolved enough to replace humans.
