World's oldest family reveals secret to long life

Find out what these siblings who have a combined age of 1,073 years have been eating all their lives.

The Donnelly family set a new Guinness World Record for their longevity in 2017.

Out of the 16 children, 13 Donnelly members are still alive, according to the Daily Mail. The youngest is 72-years-old and the oldest is 93. Together they have a combined age of 1,073 years.

So what is their secret? Joe Donnelly, the youngest in the group credits it to their father's habit of having a bite before going to sleep every night. “Porridge at around 10pm, then again for breakfast at 7am. Cooked oats, milk, a spot of apple jam on top,' he told the Daily Mail.

Studies have shown that porridge helps lower blood pressure, diabetes and even the risk of heart disease.

The family grew up on a farm in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. Joe revealed to the Daily Mail their foods were fresh and grown by them. They would also snack a lot on apples that were around them.

The report also revealed that people living near certain kinds of apple orchards in England have lived longer lives. Scientists believe a compound in the fruit called epicatechin polyphenon, reduces "arterial age by up to a decade".
