Five more cases of Diphtheria reported in Kozhikode
KOZHIKODE: After a brief lull, diphtheria cases were again reported in the district on Saturday. Five suspected cases were reported, each from Paleri, Kuttiyadi, Chekyad, Vanimel and from Kunnamangalam. Of this one is confirmed.
According to health officials, as on Saturday, 70 cases of diphtheria were reported in the district of which 14 are confirmed. Five suspected dengue cases were also reported on Saturday taking the total number of cases to 534.
Two leptospirosos cases also were reported from Atholy and Kallai. As many as 903 people visited hospitals due to fever and 21 were admitted. According to district health office, all preventive measures were put in place to curb diphtheria.
“The disease would spread as it is an air-borne one. All people in the affected area are being vaccinated and there is no shortage of vaccine,” said a press release from the district medical office.
