Navya Nair’s fitness mantra

Navya says she started focusing on fitness as part of her dance career.

Navya Nair’s last film released nine years ago, but the actor hasn’t been really away thanks to her stage performances and social media presence. However, nowadays Navya’s name is more associated with something other than films — fitness — and Navya couldn’t be happier to share her fitness mantra. “I feel very happy when people ask me about my fitness mantra. The workout regimen I follow works for each body part like arms, legs, core muscles, biceps and triceps. And, I work out daily for nearly one and a half hours. Actually, I try different kinds of exercise. I do functional training, Zumba, classical dance and walking. I follow different methods as I don’t want my brain to get used to a particular pattern,” says Navya.

She also stresses on maintaining a regular diet along with exercise. “I avoid carbohydrates-rich food like rice and rice products. Instead, eat fluids, proteins and fibre-rich food items. Also, I do not consume any food after 7 pm.”

In fact, it was dance that led Navya, who recently came up with a graceful dance performance, to exercise. “ I started maintaining fitness for my dance career,” she says. “Keeping my body fit is important for me to look good in dance costumes. It’s not about coming back to films,” she clears the air.

However, does she have any comeback plans? “I will surely come back to cinema if I get good films,” she says and quickly adds that currently her focus is on starting a dance school.

She is right now working on a dance video titled Sound of Silence to be released on YouTube. “Students of the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) inspired me to do it. Through this video, I want to convey a small message they had taught me while I was doing a video for them,” says Navya. “The support I receive from my audience inspires me to come up with videos with a message,” adds Navya also was a member of the Kerala State Film Award jury. She shares her immense joy of being part of it along with eminent personalities like Kumar Shahani and K.G. Jayan.

“They took me to the world of cinema and taught me how to watch a film. They helped me understand different perspectives of watching a film. Although I am very young compared to them, they were very keen to listen to my opinions,” she adds.
