Teenager who vomits 30 times a day due to rare condition may die in 6 months
Having a diet that fulfils nutrition requirements is crucial for living a healthy life, but certain conditions make it impossible for people to get that. Paying attention to what and how much you eat becomes obsolete when a person is forced to vomit out almost all the food they eat.
A teenager from Scotland now faces a threat to her life as she vomits 30 times a day and weighs only 38 kilos due to a rare condition. The disorder called gastroparesis causes delay in her stomach emptying as her life is dominated by frequent hospital visits.
Caitlin White has to depend on nutrient infusions which take up to 12 hours and also cause infections. She is malnourished and at risk of organ failure as delivering nutrition directly to the liver bypassing the digestive system is seen as a last resort.
Caitlin is raising money for medical expenses while doctors say she may not survive more than six months due to the impact of the disorder.
