Comtrust eye hospital puts up donors' pics for public eyes

Exhibition for society to become more aware of good samaritans.

KOZHIKODE: They were “visionaries” so other people could see. They were donors, at some point of time, starting from the year 2000. The Comtrust eye hospital is holding an exhibition of the photographs of the donors for society to become more aware of the good samaritans and their families, who were willing to donate their eyes, in the event of death. Officials said many recipients also came and looked at the photographs as a mark of respect for their noble gesture.

The photographer of the first donor, Vasu Nambeesan from Areekode, whose eyes were donated on August 3, 2000, was also displayed among the 320 photographs at the Comtrust eye hospital. There were also photos of Poyyath Gopalan, who had been working among blind students, and 105-year-old Mariyam and 10-year-old Anmy Wilson. “Till now, 460 eyes have been taken and 407 transplant surgeries have been performed,” said public relations assistant manager Praveen Kumar. The exhibition will continue until September 8. He added that all the recipients were informed of the exhibition at the hospital.
