The elderly have been caution against getting exposed to the chilly weather. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city is inching towards below 15 degrees Celsius.

Fitness freaks have been advised to avoid early morning jogging or running in the opens and instead go about the regimen after the weather turns sunny.

Given the climatic conditions, heart experts pointed out that there has been an increase in young and healthy people dying because of cardiac arrests. As per available data, seven lakh Indians die each year because of cardiac arrest.
Experts opined that cold weather will result in a higher heart rate, an increase in blood pressure, a higher demand for oxygen and blood clotting.

Dr J. Shivkumar, chief of cardiology at Apollo Hospitals, said that this data pertained to the pre-Covid days. The latest projections will show higher figures in terms of deaths.”

He added, “During winters, our bodies undergo physiological and biological adjustments. Blood pressure increases, and along with restrictive blood flow and reduction of oxygen supply to the heart lead to heart attacks.”
He recommended “those with complications are advised to consult a physician. Consuming hot meals and warm drinks are a suitable way of warming up while going outdoors. Smokers and the elders should be extra guarded.”
