Hyderabad: Viral fevers turn serious, internal organs attacked
Hyderabad: Five deaths due to complications arising out of viral fevers were found in the city last fortnight. General physicians who are treating fevers claim that the present strain of viral fevers is turning out to be very virulent in some cases and that internal organs get attacked after the first day of fever. Dr S. Ramakrishna, senior general physician explained, “We are seeing cases of very aggressive fevers attacking vital organs. These are mostly young patients and it requires a prompt response. In some cases, it is so aggressive that there is not enough time to prescribe treatment.”
In a recent case of a 25-year-old patient suffering from viral fever even the heart was attacked. Luckily for the patient the pain in the heart muscles helped to identify the trauma and he was immediately rushed into the intensive care unit and treated for almost a week. All the five casualties recently seen in the city were aged between 15 and 30 years and they had come to hospital on time but still they could not be saved.
Dr K. Subhash, general physician said, “There are thousands of disease viruses are circulating in the atmosphere and some of them are very virulent. These are viral fevers but in some cases we are seeing damage to the organs of the body in the first two days of fever. In some cases, multi-organ failures have occurred even while the treatment is going on. This is causing a lot of confusion.” The cases which were seen in Kukatpally and Old City areas of the city made doctors concerned about the virulence of the virus.
Dr P.K. Raju, another general physician said, “There is no reporting of the viral fevers hence these deaths are not recorded or studied. But the existing strain of virus is a matter of concern and it is showing that despite heavy medications the treatment is not working towards saving the patient.” Around five lakh cases of fevers have been recorded in the last three months in Hyderabad city hospitals.
