Twin boys suffer from rare condition that makes them feel hungry all the time
A mother from Connecticut is compelled to lock her fridge, pet food storage and cleaning products as she has twin boys with an extremely rare condition that keeps them feeling perpetually hungry. Stevie and Eddie Ahern, 12, who were born with Prader-Willi Syndrome and autism, are prone to violent outbursts when denied access to food.
Prader-Willi is a condition that affects one in every 25,000 children and leaves them with a voracious appetite, low muscle tone, and speech delay. Their mother, Dianna Schatzlein-Ahern, reveals that her sons gets so hungry sometimes that they even eat of the garbage. “Things are at the worst every day. There's not a day that goes by when something major doesn't happen in our lives,” she told the Daily Mail.
Diana finds it very difficult to control the boys who now weigh around thirteen stone each. As looking after her sons is a 24-hours-a-day job, the stress of it took a toll on her marriage and led to her husband abandoning her. Yet, she chooses to maintain a positive outlook despite the numerous challenges. “I'll keep fighting for them as long as I can,” she vows.
