Now, Kerala gets a Gift of Heart
KOZHIKODE: Blood donation charity Gift of Heart started one year back by youngsters as a WhatsApp group here ensured blood for the needy in time. It also has a data sheet of donors and conducts many camps for the purpose in each district, besides blood group identification camps and blood donation awareness campaigns. Prajeesh Palatu, the founder of the initiative, started the project with 40 members, who collect data from hospitals across the city on the requirement and find donors in each blood group. They also update the details on Facebook and WhatsApp groups they created for the members of each district like Thiruvananthapuram, Wayanad, Pathanamthitta, Kasargode, Alappuzha and Malappuram.
They have also created groups for sub-regions like Vadakara, Balussery, Keezhariyoor and Muchukunnu. “We are happy that we provide blood to the maximum number of blood banks in the city,” Mr Palatu said. “We need more people to be part of our charity." At present, the group has more than 250 members, with a separate women’s wing. Apart from blood donations, the members find time for doing other charity works. Snehamritham is an initiative of providing food for the poor on every Sunday in collaboration with Compassionate Kozhikode. It provides food for the patients at Mental Hospital, Kuthiravattam.
