Girl with four legs and two spines returns to Ivory Coast after surgery in US
The medical profession has over the years come a long way and has been able to help people live a better life despite being born with life altering and often fatal conditions. Children with physical deformities go through agony and in many cases limited healthcare comes in the way of their relief.
Such is the tale of a baby girl from Ivory Coast in Africa who was born with two spines and four legs which were manifestations of a parasitic twin sharing the same body. But after a six hour surgery in the US, this child has returned home and will now be able to lead a normal, healthy life.
Dominique was born with a twin who failed to separate from her during development and gained nourishment from her lungs and heart. The bottom half of this twin emerged from Dominique’s neck and back, and this extra weight could’ve paralysed her if it hadn’t been removed.
The hospital’s charity in US came to the rescue as it paid for the risky yet successful surgery which led to the extra limbs, spine and bladder being removed from Dominique’s body.
