Strict low-calorie diets can help you loose weight faster, new study claims

However, researchers also have a warning message. Read on to find out more.

Researchers have found low-calorie diets can be an effective way to loose weight, the Daily Mail reported.

A study conducted by Oxford University researchers found people who consumed 800 calories worth of food through shakes, soups and bars lost weight three times faster than people on different diets.

They also reduced their risk of developing heart disease, stroke and diabetes. It is also found to help maintain the weight.

"This study shows that GP referral to a total diet replacement programme … is an effective intervention which GPs can confidently recommend, knowing that it leads to sustainable weight loss and lowers the risk of heart disease and diabetes," Paul Aveyard, a GP and professor of Behavioural Medicine at the University of Oxford, told the Daily Mail.

However, researchers warn this diet may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who are taking medications.

"This model of care … offers the potential for rapid roll-out at scale across the NHS and could help reduce the pressure on GPs in treating obesity-related disease," Dr Nerys Astbury, senior researcher in diet and obesity at the University of Oxford, told the Daily Mail.
