Pregmo, a smart pregnancy monitoring system prototype to help expecting moms
Hyderabad: Pregmo, a smart pregnancy monitoring system prototype developed by engineering students, received wide acclaim at the inter collegiate hackathon held at IIIT-Hyderabad recently.
The five-member team comprising M.L. Bhargav, B. Vivek Kiran, K. Sushma, T. Pravallika and S. Divya Sri prepared a belt to monitor the health of the mother and the fetus in real time.
According to Divya Sri, the sensors on the belt record fetal movements, kick counts and the body temperature of the mother. These sensors in turn link to a specially devised app.
Bhargav said that the system would be useful for doctors who would receive real-time information and could view and analyse the data on an Android app on a smartphone.
The jury at the hackathon was impressed with the prototype and came forward to mentor the team in the coming months to take their idea to the next level.
Divya Sri said that they wanted to build on the prototype and make a low cost, portable and light product that would record uterus movements, fetal heart rate / movement / skip counts as well as the mother's heart rate /blood pressure /temperature. The readings would be transferred to cloud storage and then checked on an app, she said.
