Kidney donor Ajish Mol from Kollam donates her hair
KOLLAM: Beauty consciousness is no bar for an act of charity when it comes to this kidney donor who donated her long tresses to cancer patients on her birthday. Ajish Mol from Kollam celebrated her 40th birthday by donating her hair and blood on Monday, avoiding all other celebrations.
The woman, who donated one of her kidneys in memory of her mother who died of kidney failure several years ago, is now planning to donate her liver too, becoming the first multiple organ donor in the state. “It was my birthday today and I found happiness in donating my long hair for cancer patients and my blood to the patients in the district hospital here. The hair will be handed over to an organisation run by Father Alex from Chang-anassery which will be processed to make a wig for an unknown cancer patient," Ajish Mol told this newspaper.
Ajish Mol lost her mother to complications following a kidney failure when she was 26. That incident made her decide to be a kidney donor because she was unable to save her mother with her own kidneys. Ajish Mol longed for another 10 years to get a chance to donate one of her kidneys to an ailing patient for free. This unmarried woman is a diploma holder in drawing, makes a living by working as a painter and a designer of saris at her rented house in Chinnakkada.
“My next aim is to donate my liver and I am in search of a child recipient as my doctors advised that donating a liver to a child requires only a small part of my liver. Any major transplant would harm my life as I have already donated my kidney. However, the authorisation from the Medical Board for donating my liver is to be procured,” she says.
