7 new cases of Diphtheria reported in Kozhikode
Malappuram /Kozhikode: Four new suspected cases of diphtheria were reported in Kozhikode district on Tuesday. All of them are adults. On Monday, seven cases were reported including two positive cases from Mangad near Balusserry and Makkada near Kak-kodi. Suspected cases are from Velam, Mankavu, West hill, Payimbra and Cheruvatta. As many as 52 people are suspected to be affected with diphtheria in Kozhikode district as on Tuesday.
Three more suspected cases of diphtheria including two adults were reported on Tuesday from Pulikkal, Padinjattumuri and Tanur in Malappuram district. All the three, aged 30, 26 and 17, with diphtheria symptoms were taken to Kozhikode medical College Hospital for treatment and further tests.
With this the total number cases in Malappuram reached 72 of which 19 cases were confirmed with diphtheria. Of the total 15 health blocks in the district diphtheria cases have been reported from 13 blocks. Chungathara and Marancheri are the only two blocks from where no cases were reported so far.
