Heat: Beer sales register 40 per cent growth in March
Vijayawada: Scorching temperatures and sale of beers are always directly proportional and the same is proved this month which witnessed high temperature even before the summer set in. As the temperature soared making people suffer hot weather conditions, tipplers make use of beer to beat the heat.
While temperature began to increase right from February, March witnessed highest temperature of above 40 degrees Celsius for a few days. This simultaneously registered increase in sales of beers across the district. Nearly 40 per cent of beer sales has been registered in the district as on March 25 compared to the total sale of beers during March 2015.
Speaking to DC, district excise deputy commissioner Mr Battula Arun Rao, said as many as 1,80,190 cases of beer were sold in the district as on March 25. This is not anyway close to the last year’s sales figure. In March last year only 1,28,566 cases of beer were sold across the district.
“Our department’s only target is not to fall behind the last year’s sale. There are various factors contributing to increasing sales. However, the manufacturers would come up with more output to meet the needs of public,” Mr Rao added.
It is also estimated that the inflow of visitors to the city which is witnessing administrative and other capital related activity is contributing to sale of beers. Mean while, the sale of liquor registered only minimal growth.
