Missing Alzheimer's patient found at Kanjiramkulam

Babu Mathew was let go by the police

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kanjiramkulam police on Tuesday found an Alzheimer’s patient who went missing from Kochi before four days. The missing person Babu Mathew, 70 had made headlines after Cantonment police left him away on Friday in spite of him being handed over to them by a photographer. “The man was sleeping in front of a shop at Kanjiramkulam junction at night when our police patrol party noticed him. We woke him up and identified him as his photographs were already circulated.

“He was fatigue hit and we brought him to police station and bought him food,” said officials of Kanjiramkulam station. “The man could not remember anything including his name. City police had let him away after giving him money as he told them he will find his way home,” he added. The Edathala Police in Kochi were informed about the man and he was taken back to be produced in a court.

He is likely to be moved to a shelter home, officials added. The man was lodged to an old age home at Edathala as he had no off springs or relatives to look after him. His wife has been admitted to hospital after she became ridden following a fall. Some of his former neighbours had voluntarily come to city on Sunday and had appealed personnels in station from Vizhinjam to Neyyatinkara.
