Kozhikode medical college to come out with music systems in all wards
KOZHIKODE: In the 60th glorious year of yeomen service, Kozhikode government medical college hospital (MCH) will get music systems in all the wards. The project is part of the 60-development projects being planned to mark the celebrations. “The low volume music will be soothing for patients. Besides, patient-centric general instructions will also be announced through the system,” said MCH Principal, Dr V.P Sasidharan. Established as the second medical college in the state in 1957, MCH has close to 100 wards across four institutions, viz., Medical College Hospital, Institute of Maternity and Child Health (IMCH), Super Speciality Hospital and Chest Hospital.
The other major projects in the offing include waste disposal, providing foldable cots to bystanders and supply of wheelchairs. From 2017 onwards, no bottled water will be allowed inside the hospital. Instead, drinking water vending machines will come up at selected points. Vallikunnu gram panchayat in Malappuram has evinced interest in donating 100 wheelchairs in the 60th year. The MCH caters to around 24 lakhs patients a year from Kasargod to Thrissur.
It boasts of handling the highest number of delivery cases in Asia, up to 10,000 annually. The institution was set up at the premises of the government general hospital in Kozhikode beach with Colonel Dr K.N Pisharody as the first principal. Kozhikode MCH is the single institution in the government sector to have a family medicine MD course in the country. The hospital and allied institutions are functioning over a sprawling campus of 270 acres.
