No polio cases in Kurnool since 2003

Narasimhulu asked officials to prepare micro action plans to see that every child below 5 year age gets the pulse polio vaccine.

KURNOOL: District medical and health officer Dr Y. Narasimhulu ordered the department officials to make foolproof arrangements for the pulse polio programme on January 28 at the meeting held in Kurnool General Hospital here Thursday.

Narasimhulu asked the officials to prepare micro action plans to see that every child below five year age in the district gets the pulse polio vaccine. He ordered them to keep a tab on the high-risk areas including the places where nomads usually live for a while.

Speaking to media persons, Mr Narsimhulu said, although, no indigenous cases of polio have been reported in Kurnool since 2003 and India was declared polio-free by the Union Health Ministry, authorities of the department of health and family welfare have no plans of giving up unless a sustained effort is made to keep its children safe from the disease. She said that they will distribute 6,80,000 vaccination doses with the assistants of 10,940 vaccinators across the district. They have setup all arrangements to succeed this program, she added. She called upon the parents to insert polio drops to their children and succeed the program with fulfil involvement.

As part of the National Immunisation Programme, as many as 5,31,682 children below five years will be administered polio drops here during the first phase of pulse polio programme to be held on January 28 to 30 across the district. Total 8,59,672 households and 44,04,478 population in the district.

A total of 2,771 polio booths have been set up to administer polio drops to children aged between 0-5 years across the district, including 88 mobile teams are being pressed into service to safeguard children.
