Dengue; Health director Dr RL Saritha booked

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As dengue deaths claimed two more lives in the state on Saturday, Upa Lokayukta registered a case against Director of Health Services (DHS) Dr RL Saritha and Thiruvananthapuram District Medical Officer (DMO) Jose Dcruz. Upalokayukta Justice K P Balachandran registered a suo motu case on the basis of news reports regarding the spreading of dengue. Both of them were to appear before the Upa Lokayuktha and file a detailed report by July 3.

2 more deaths

The people who succumbed to dengue fever on Saturday were identified as Sunil Lal, 40, of Navayikulam in Thiruvananthapuram and Soudha, 46, of Vazhikkadavu, Malappuram. Apart from this, DHS acknowledged on Saturday that in the past two days, three more deaths had taken place due to suspected cases of dengue.

On Saturday, 754 suspected cases of dengue and 157 confirmed cases were reported in the state. Of this, the highest of 239 suspected and 70 confirmed cases were reported in the capital. Most cases were reported at Vallakadu (6), Thiruvallam (5) and Pallichal (5) areas of the capital.

CM writes to hospitals

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to private hospitals to add more facilities in order to admit more patients with fever. More beds have been requested at hospitals to ensure treatment for maximum fever-affected. Letters have also been given to educational institutions appealing to them to take part in anti-vector activities from July 27 to 29.
