HYDERABAD: Doctors at SLG Hospital in Hyderabad have successfully performed a complex surgery on a 42-year-old who suffered structural valve deterioration (SVD) of both the Mitral and Aortic valves. The woman had earlier undergone a heart surgery for replacement of two valves.
Manjula, 42, had bioprosthetic valves which have a life span of 10 to 15 years. Her valves were damages 10 years after they were fixed. She was brought SLG hospital with breathlessness, heaviness in the heart, swelling in the legs and face, and some other health issues. She was suffering from these problems for the last six months.
The surgery being the second instance of replacing the valves, was complex in nature for various reasons and several hospitals in the city denied to take up the case considering the high risk.
However, both of her valves were successfully replaced with mechanical ones by the SLG hospital team led by CT surgeon Dr. Sudheer. Cardiac Anaesthetist Dr. Manasa, cardiologist Dr. Bhanu, and intensivist Dr. Srinivas participated in the surgery.
