Doctors save firefighter's badly mangled hand by sewing it into his stomach

The procedure called Pedicled Abdominal Flap was used after the man's hand was crushed by a roller.

Gruesome accidents can leave people in agony and also lead to serious injuries to key organs resulting in life altering consequences. But luckily medical procedures are now able to help change things for people left with the most blood curdling impact from mishaps.

Life as a firefighter isn’t easy and things didn’t look good for Anthony Seward from Bristol after his hand was left badly mangled by an accident at work. The hand was crushed by a roller and doctors had to go for a Pedicled Abdominal Flap procedure to help his skin heal.

Anthony’s hand was sewn inside a pocket in his stomach for three weeks as blood supply was generated from the hand. It was then separated and his entire hand was covered by folding over the skin.

Surgeons have said that his fingers can be further improved with transplants from his toes which can help with fingertips for a better grip.
