Cholera case reported after a three-year gap in Kozhikode
KOZHIKODE: After a gap of three years, Cholera has raised its ugly head in the district. A 47-year old man of Edakkad in the corporation limits, who was affected with Vibrio cholera, was discharged from government medical college hospital on Friday, according to health officials. The disease was confirmed on Saturday after the receipt of lab report from Manipal hospital. Following the reporting of cholera, district health officials and corporation health authorities had started chlorination and other preventive mechanisms in the area.
“People should take care in the wake of cholera outbreak. Only hot water should be taken and hygiene should be maintained. No flies should be allowed to enter the food items,” district health officer (DMO), Dr R.L Saritha said. She added that those having diarrhea would immediately contact to the nearest health centre.
On Saturday, three cases of diphtheria were also reported in the district. Two are from city corporation limits and one from Onchiyam. Of this the case of 14-year old from Onchiyam is confirmed. Now the totoal diphtheria cases were shot up to 41 of which 11 are confirmed. Three suspected dengue cases were also reported on Saturday.
