Fever kills three in Thrissur district

Toll rises to 10

Thrissur: Three women, who had been undergoing treatment in different hospitals in Thrissur district for fever, died on Friday taking the death toll due to fever in the district to 10 in one-and-a-half month. The deceased are identified as Valsa (52), wife of Jose, a resident of Padavarad, who was under treatment for dengue at Jubilee Mission hospital, Binitha (31), wife of Biju and a native of Kuriyachira, who died in the same hospital and Sujatha (40), daughter of Narayanan, a resident of Chelakkara, who was under treatment at Amala Hospital due to fever-related ailments.

Binitha was also suffering from dengue and the health department officials said that they were yet to ascertain the cause of death and the real cause of death can revealed only after receiving the lab reports. Meanwhile, a meeting was held in Thrissur to assess the situation in view of fever deaths in which MLAs and health officials participated.

Industries minister A.C. Moideen said in the meeting that government doctors and staffs in the district should be ready to spend more time at the hospitals taking into consideration the present situation. Even though the health department had undertaken several drives to prevent fever case during monsoon, they did not yield much result. Nine new cases of dengue and one case of jaundice hepatitis the district on Friday.
