83 dengue cases in Ernakulam district

21 suspected cases reported on Friday.

Kochi: As many as 83 confirmed and 511 suspected dengue cases have been reported from Ernakulam district since January. Meanwhile in Kottayam district, a woman, Geetha of Neendur, succumbed to dengue fever on Friday. There has been a significant increase in the number of cases after the onset of monsoon, according to district medical authorities. On Friday, 21 suspected cases were reported from Varapuzha, Piravom, Chendama- ngalam, Kavalangad, Paipra, Kalady, Kotham- angalam, Edathala, Nellikuzhy, Thrikakara, Chottanikara,Varapetty, Kottapady, Asamannur and Vengola.

Five suspected H1N1 cases were reported from Kavalangad, Aluva and Cheranelloor. Twenty-two suspected and seven confirmed leptospirosis cases were reported from various parts of the district this month. The number of new fever cases reported in OP section of government hospitals on Friday is 1,433 and 68 of them have been admitted for further treatment. Meanwhile, the city corporation will convene a special council session on Saturday to discuss the immediate measures to be taken to prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases.
