All you need to know about the Nordic diet

This new diet trend has even got nutritionists on board.

A new diet trend has been winning nutritionists over and has even been endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Daily Mail reported.

It's called the Nordic diet, which is based on produce found in Scandinavia. That included whole grains, berries, fish and herbs.

The diet follows the Baltic Sea Pyramid:

* Eating meals with others

* Incorporating legumes, leafy greens, vegetables, healthy fats and whole grains

* Next is seafood, followed by poultry, eggs and cheese

* Meats and sweets

* And last a little wine and lots of water

The reason experts are recommending this diet is because it focuses on planning your meals around vegetables. Nordics also tend to eat according to what is available in season, which is fresher.

"Seasonal produce is usually less expensive than fruit and veggies not in season," Amy von Sydow Green, MD, a nutritionist at Penn Medicine, and a proud Scandinavian, told the Daily Mail.

Adding, "The winter vegetables emphasized in the Nordic diet are often quite affordable: kale, cabbage and broccoli for example."

Seasonal food is also grown and picked at the peak of its season. That is why it retains its health benefits.
