Nipah virus: Dr Kafeel Khan's offer welcomed

The government is only happy to provide an opportunity Dr Khan.

THIRUVANANTHPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday welcomed the offer of Dr Kafeel Khan who was released on bail last month in connection with the deaths infants in BRD Medical College Gorakhpur, to be part health volunteer team that is fighting Nipah virus in Kozhikode district. In a tweet, Dr Kafeel Khan said he was finding it difficult to sleep because of the increase in mortality due to Nipah virus NiV and rumours spreading on the social media platform.

“ I request chief minister Pinarayi Viayan to allow me to serve at Calicut Medical College to serve innocent lives,” he said and paid tribute to Nursing staff Lini who died on Monday. “Sister Lini is an inspiration and I am more than willing to sacrifice my life for the noble cause. May Allah give me the strength knowledge and skill to serve humanity,” he added.

The chief minister responded immediately saying that Dr Kafeel Khan’s request to serve in the Nipah virus affected regions of Kerala had come to his notice. "Even in the face of danger, many doctors were continuing to toil in the affected areas for the benefit of the society. Many people including doctors and health workers have expressed their desire to voluntary work in the affected areas. Dr Kafeel Khan is one among them. The government is only happy to provide an opportunity Dr Khan. The government of Kerala welcomes their service,” the chief minister said.
