Vitamin D from noon Sun too: Indian Paediatric Association

Care must be taken, however, while exposing the skin to the sun later in the day, especially in summer.

Hyderabad: Contrary to the belief that the body can synthesise Vitamin D only from exposure to the morning sunlight, the Indian Paediatric Association has reported that sunlight from 10 am to 3 pm works just as well.

Care must be taken, however, while exposing the skin to the sun later in the day, especially in summer. The mornings are typically cooler.

As part of its study, the Indian Paediatric Association researchers measured the baseline maternal Vitamin D of 132 infants and asked their parents to expose them to sunlight at noon.

The cumulative effect calculated on the infants with 40 per cent exposure showed a marked difference and it was recommended that they must follow this practice.

The study found that exposing 40 per cent of the body of infants to afternoon sunlight helped improve Vitamin D levels. It could also help treat Vitamin D deficiency.
