Teen succumbs to dengue, 50 suspected cases in Kozhikode

A case of leptospirosis and two cases of malaria were also registered.

Kozhikode: A 14-year old girl, Theja, succumbed to dengue on Monday at Thiruvangur. That apart, 50 suspected cases and a confirmed case of dengue were reported. 1499 cases of fever were reported on Monday, according to the district medical office. Of this 33 have been admitted. A case of leptospirosis and two cases of malaria were also registered. Of the malaria cases, one was an indigenous case reported from Moodadi. As many as 165 ADD (Acute diarrhoeal disease) cases were also reported.

District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr V. Jayashree said that the case of the indigenous malaria reported from Moodadi near Koyilandy was of a person who moved around places as a part of his job. “He frequently visits various places as a part of work. He was out of the state earlier. Health workers have started awareness programmes as well as fogging in the area to get rid of mosquitoes,” she said.

The District medical office plans to conduct a health screening camp at Kozhikode railway station targeting passengers who come from outside the state, primarily migrant labourers. “Railway authorities consented and it will commence soon,” the DMO added. Meanwhile, a cleanliness drive was held on the railway station as a part of the Swachh Bharat programme. NSS volunteers of SNG College Chelannur, Farook College, railway health staff, officers at district vector control unit and others took part.
