Visitors banned in Pazhassi park
KALPETTA: Health department in Wayanad district is on high alert after Nipah virus was confirmed in the blood samples collected from the dead at Panthirikkara near Perambara, Kozhikode. An emergency meeting was held in the presence of district collector S. Suhas at collector’s conference hall, here, on Monday. The meeting decided to constitute a task force to face any kind of health emergency in the district.
With bats being the major carriers of the virus, special instructions were given to various departments to launch campaign against consuming fruits bitten by birds or bats. Visitors were banned at Pazhassi Park which is known for its large bat population. All major hospitals in the district would be equipped with isolation wards. The health department also directed to people living in Pulppalli and Mullankolly panchayats to be on high alert as the region has high density of bat population.
