Two more die of dengue in Thiruvananthapuram

One dies of suspected leptospirosis at Kalliyoor.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two separate cases of dengue and leptospirosis deaths were reported in the district on Tuesday. In the first, Sudha, 55, of Gowrishankaram, Perukavu near Thirumala succumbed to dengue fever at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital (MCH) on Tuesday. Omana, 60, died of suspected leptospirosis at Kalliyoor near Thiruvananthapuram. On the same day, at Kollam, Babukuttan, 50 of Kulathupuzha succumbed to dengue. In the capital around 464 cases of dengue and eight cases of leptospirosis were reported on Tuesday. Only around 24 cases of dengue were reported in Kollam.

Most cases were reported from areas such as Nemom, Beemapally, Karakulam, Kalliyoor and Andoorkonam, as per the daily monitoring data of the Directorate of Health Services (DHS). The corporation secretary, meanwhile has requested citizens to allow health workers into all premises including those closed down and abandoned. As per the municipal act of 1994, the corporation workers were empowered to inspect vacant plots. Schools, hospitals, government offices and residents association also should cooperate, Mayor V.K. Prasanth said.

Second fever ward in MCH
A second fever ward and a 24 hours laboratory were opened at MCH on Tuesday. Ward 14 which has around 70 beds was opened after being sanitised. The round the clock laboratory expects to cut down the waiting time of patients, an official statement said.
