Thiruvananthapuram all set to celebrate International Day of Yoga

The International Day of Yoga, unofficially referred to as Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on June 21 since its inception in 2015.

Thiruvananthapuram: Yogathon at Technopark

A Yogathon will be held at Technopark on Wednesday. Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Vijay Goel, will inaugurate the Yogathaon being organised jointly by Technopark and Vivekananda Study Circle with the theme 'Yoga for Health.' A mass Yogathon under the leadership of an instructor from Art of Living will be held at Bhavani building on Technopark campus at 11 a.m. A free Isha Upa Yoga session will be held at Bhavani atrium from 4 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. by the Isha Yoga Foundation.

Technopark chief executive officer Hrishikesh Nair said in a statement that Technopark was striving to help the techies strike a work- life balance and that practising Yoga would be a step towards that. The events are being organised with the support of Technopark chapter of Art of Living and Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education.

Yoga at Raj Bhavan
A Yoga programme will be held for the staff of Raj Bhavan at the Raj Bhavan auditorium at 7 a.m. Governor P. Sathasivam will participate in the programme.

Yoga day by Railways
The day will be observed in all the important stations in the Thiruvananthapuram railway division. In Thiruvananthapuram, a yoga demonstration and class will be conducted at Railway Kalyana Mandapam, Thampanoor at 11 a.m. with support from Shivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.

Isha Yoga
Isha Thiruvananthapuram will conduct free ‘Upayoga’ sessions for anyone above seven years of age on Wednesday. The sessions will be held in Gandhi Bhavan, Thycaud, from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and at Bhavani Atrium, Technopark, from 4 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.

“Through a synthesis of 5-minute yoga practices, the session will present easy-to-practise yet potent tools to enhance health, joy, peace, love, success and inner exploration, helping one cope with the hectic pace of modern lifestyles and realise their full potential in all spheres of life," a statement said.

Pangode military station
The Indian Army formation at Pangode will organise a ‘Mass Yoga Event’ at Colachal stadium, military station, from 6.30 a.m. Brigadier M.A.J. Fernandez, Station Commander, Pangode military station, will lead the event. Army personnel and their families, students from KV, Pangode and Army Public School will join it.
