MR vaccination drive extended in Malappuram

According to health officials, the vaccination will be strengthened further from Tuesday.

MALAPPURAM: State health department has given nod to the district health authorities to carry on Measles Rubella vaccination till December 23. The district could only achieve 74.3 per cent by Saturday which was the last extended deadline. According to health officials, the vaccination will be strengthened further from Tuesday. More than 8.94 lakh (74.5 per cent) children have been administered the MR vaccine by Monday.

"Several cases of Measles and Rubella have been reported from several parts of the district. So we will surely continue the vaccination," district medical officer Dr K. Sakeena said. Meanwhile a four-year-old boy from Pang died at Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode on Monday while undergoing treatment for diphtheria infection. The boy was confirmed with the infection a month ago. According to the DMO, the condition of the boy further deteriorated few days ago and was admitted to the Medical College Hospital.
