Nutritionist reveals foods to eat for your body type
A trip to India, led Sydney-based nutritionist Lee Holmes on a journey to discover the Ayurvedic lifestyle.
She learned Ayurveda encourages people to eat according to seasonal changes and our Dosha (body type). When she returned to Australia she had lost a dress size and felt a whole lot better.
"I truly believe that eating seasonally is one of the best things you can do for your body, and I'm not the only one who believes so," she told the Daily Mail.
Now in her new book, Eat Right For Your Shape she shares what the types of doshas are and the benefits about eating according to it. She recommends people adapt their diet based on these simple key principles for a more healthier you.
"In Ayurveda, everyone has a pre-dominant Dosha, which is the specific energy that circulates the body and governs both our appearance and emotional state. Only once you're aware of your dominant Dosha or Doshas (there could be more than one) can you start to maintain balance and harmony within your life, " she explained in the report.
Here are the three types of body types:
1. Vata: This is for people who are slender. They often suffer dry skin and hair.
Foods to eat: Consume good fats, oils, warming foods and cooked vegetables.
2. Pitta: Medium-sized athletic builds that gain weight easily but can also lose it just as fast. They often have combination skin and fine hair.
Foods to eat: Eat cooling foods like vegetables and fruits and dark leafy greens.
3. Kapha: Usually big, heavy and slow and find losing weight challenging. They tend to have oily skin.
Food to eat: Consume dry foods like vegetables, fruits, salads and spicy and warm foods.
