The best types of exercises for the brain
It’s not just your body that needs a balanced diet and intense workouts to remain in optimum working condition; your brain needs the same too. A recent study published in the Journal of Physiology has claimed that there are certain types of exercises that help in the generation of new brain cells.
The study involved researchers injecting adult male rats with a substance that marks new brain cells and grouping them into different workouts, with the control group being the sedentary one. After seven weeks, researchers studied the brain tissues of the rodents and came up with a list of exercises that helped in brain cell creation at different levels, according to The New York Times.
The researchers found that those rats that were made to jog displayed robust levels of growth and development of nervous tissue. After that, high-intensity interval training resulted in a higher number of brain neurons in the rodents as compared to those who were sedentary. Lastly, weight training was shown to have no discernable effect on the neurogenenis levels of the creatures. Researchers hope that the study would prove to be beneficial for understanding brain health in humans as well.
