Ayurveda Medical Association of India expo to revive Karkidaka traditions
KOZHIKODE: With the onset of the month of Karkidaka, popularly known as Ramayana Masam, a massive programme to revive the age-old tradition followed during the month was presented in a picturesque model at the Town Hall here by Ayurveda Medical Association of India (AMA-I) on Saturday. From spreading the awareness on the importance of the Ayurveda treatment to be followed in the month to the healthy food habits to be maintained, the volunteers of AMA presented a daylong Karkidakam Expo along with a slew of other activities highlighting the importance of the day.
The major highlight of the session on Karkidaka month was various medical camps offering free medicines. Another age-old tradition of savouring the Karkidaka Kanji, a spicy mix of rice and medicinal herbs, which remains intact among a few families, was the another attraction of the day. “Years back the rapid climatic changes and downpour had brought a lot of epidemics and deadly diseases and people were conscious of moving to all kind of Ayurveda treatment and diet to keep themselves fit,” AMA Kozhikode committee member Dr S. Jayasree said.
“A good number of people still follow this, but many lack knowledge about its importance. Hence our mission was to create awareness about the month and the need to be healthy and fit. In fact, Karkidaka is the ideal period for rejuvenation treatment and therapies to purify the whole body and mind.”
Students of KMCT Ayurveda College exhibited vast varieties of informative articles and posters on Ayurveda treatment and food menu. Free ‘Karkidaka Kanji’ and rejuvenation oil were distributed to the public. Ayurveda experts like Dr Shaiju, Dr Satheesh and Dr Valsala Devi spoke on various treatments ideal for the month.
