App-lying minds

This city-based duo hopes to ease one of the most stressful things to do in an emergency, using technology call an ambulance.

Waiting for a ride to the hospital with an ailing patient can be extremely stressful. Trying to make this task hassle-free, Ambee, a mobile app for tracking and tracing ambulances, comes to the rescue.

The brain child of former IT employees Jaimon Jose and Rohit Kumar, the Hyderabad-based company has been selected for an investment of $50,000 in India recently. It’s the only one from the city to have won the UberPITCH 2016 challenge in India.

For Jaimon, it’s more than just a business venture as it all started with an accident. “It was early 2015, when one of my colleagues met with an accident at home. Repeated attempts to call for an ambulance failed and the family had to rush to the hospital in a car. This was despite having four large hospitals with ambulances less than 15 minutes away. That led me to research this deeper,” says Jaimon. Rohit, too had a very similar situation back home. “When my mother was diagnosed with cancer, I faced problems booking an ambulance several times for her treatment. The helpline would say they are looking for an ambulance and that they would get back. But those precious minutes lost can cost one’s life,” says Rohit.

Within a few months, Jaimon had left his job to start Ambee, under his own company 1st Consult Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Eventually, Rohit joined him. “During our research, we found that there are a lot of ambulances in the city but in an unorganised manner. We spoke with the drivers and hospitals — everyone had their own individual contact numbers. For a normal person, when s/he is in mental stress to get an ambulance on time, this makes a lot of difference,” informs Jaimon.

Ambee will be able to track ambulance vehicles just like Uber’s cab service, and that too in minimal time and rate. At present, Ambee is available in its Beta version and by next month it will be available for download from the Google Play Store for consumers.
