Team with members over 50 years of age finish 100km walkathon in 18 hours 52 minutes

Oxfam Trailwalker India\'s Mumbai edition successfully completes 7th run.

Team HP Racer raced to the finish line and completed the 100kms at Oxfam Trailwalker India in Mumbai in 18 hours 52 minutes and 25 seconds. They are also the first and the fastest veteran team (with two or more members above the age of 50) to have completed the trail.

Team Masala Men were the fastest team to cover the distance of 50kms in 9 hours 16 minutes and 33 seconds. They were also the highest fundraising team with the total contribution of over 4 lakhs. Oxfam Trailwalker India completed its 7th edition of India’s biggest walkathon in Mumbai at Karjat with great élan. Participants from all over the country and abroad registered for India’s most challenging walkathon for a cause.

This edition saw over 800 participants. They walked to fund raise for an equal world in Karjat, (near Mumbai), Maharashtra. Amitabh Behar CEO of Oxfam India flagged off the event.“Another successful edition Oxfam Trailwalker India in Mumbai comes to an end. I am grateful to all the walkers who gave their time and helped us raise awareness and funds to create an equal world and fight discrimination. Each walker is a winner for overcoming their personal challenges and walking for hours to give back for the cause of equality,” said Amitabh Behar.

Many interesting teams were seen at this year’s Oxfam trailwaker. Four ‘type 1’ diabetic friends from the NGO Blue Circle Diabetes Foundation walked a distance of 100kms in 48 hours with insulins attached to them.

“It’s been a wonderful experience to participate and complete 100km at the Oxfam Trailwalker Mumbai as the first and only team entirely comprised of type 1 diabetics. My team mates Sonu Patel, Raj Jagdale, Chinmay Tambole and I have forged a special bond as type 1 buddies walking the 100km together. As people with a chronic medical condition, being type 1 diabetic involves taking multiple insulin injections a day and testing your glucose on a glucometer several times a day along with carefully calculating insulin doses, food and exercise - too much or too little of which can be absolutely fatal. We want to show the world that a diagnosis didn't end our chances of leading an exceptional and fulfilling life,” said Nupur Lalvani, head of the team ‘Walking on Insulin’.

Oxfam Trailwalker India goes to Bengaluru for its 9th Edition which will happen on February 7-9, 2020 at Nandi Hills. Over the years, Oxfam Trailwalker has successfully developed into a top-notch international fundraiser. It challenges walkers in 17 cities across 9 countries including Australia, Belgium, France, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom.
