Vacations crucial to work-life balance
Chennai: Does a short vacation help restore work-life balance and help one to work with reinforced vigour? It sure does, say a majority of those surveyed in a private survey by an online travel agent (OTA). Vacations play a crucial role in creating work-life balance as it re-energises people to be more focused at work and nearly 95 per cent of Indians agree to this in the survey.
According to Expedia’s Vacation Deprivation Survey 2016, India is ranked as the 4th most vacation deprived country globally, after Spain, UAE, Malaysia and South-Korea. About 47 per cent of Indians are ready to give up social media and television while 30 per cent would give up Internet and 27 per cent can give up contact with their besties for a week, all for one additional day of vacation, claims Manmeet Ahluwalia, Marketing Head, Expedia India.
The findings further corroborate that 63 per cent Indians take fewer days of the vacation they get, 40 per cent don’t use all vacation days as work schedule does not allow for vacation or don't have enough staff to cover and 32 per cent are not able to take vacation days due to personal schedule. The Indians are evolving, from a tourist to a traveller. Some of the findings that highlight this evolution are that they find happiness by exploring somewhere new (77 per cent,), eating what they want (56 per cent,), meeting new people (54 per cent); and getting a lot of 'likes' or comments on social media posts (20 per cent), use technology to research information about the destination they are visiting (68 per cent) or to book activities or reservations while travelling (57 per cent), he added.
