Tripura girl's head doubles in size due to rare condition that may be fatal

People across the world are affected by rare conditions which leave them with defects that can make life difficult for them or even end it. In some heartbreaking cases children are faced with a struggle for their life at a tender age due to such disorders.

A three-year-old girl in Tripura is fighting for her life as a rare disease has caused her head to grow double in size. The condition called hydrocephalus is causing fluid to build up in her brain and can leave the child with permanent brain damage, blurred vision and learning disabilities if left untreated.

The disorder can even kill Reshmi Marak if she doesn’t get urgent medical assistance, but her family is too poor to be able to afford her treatment. The circumference of her head is currently 68 cm but Reshmi can surprisingly balance it and talk.

Her condition needs to be treated using a shunt which is a tube implanted in the brain to drain out excess fluids. But her family is devastated as they feel helpless due to lack of finances needed for the procedure.

Her mother says she takes care of Reshmi as much as possible and the best they can do is to pray for help.
