Special vaccination camps to prevent diphtheria in Kochi
KOCHI: In view of the reports of suspected diphtheria cases in the district, Collector M.G. Rajamanickam has instructed the officials to conduct special vaccination camps for children. During a district-level review meeting of top health officials, Mr. Rajamanickam asked them to conduct awareness classes and special vaccination camps for children of migrant labourers. Necessary arrangements will be made for vaccination in all hospitals from primary health centres to taluk hospitals.
During the meeting, the district medical officer informed that there are more than 1000 unvaccinated children in Ernakulam. “If non-vaccination is linked to a particular faith, religious heads should be included in the awareness programmes,” the collector said. Though more than 80 per cent of the children in the district are vaccinated, there are many children in areas like Paravur, Vengoor, Kothamangalam, Nettoor and Malayidamthuruth, who are unvaccinated.
So, the vaccination camps will be focusing on these areas and the collector himself will write letters to the families of these children. Homoeo DMO Dr. Ramachandra Warrier, Ayurveda CMO Dr. Sajeev Kumar, Dr. Sachidananda Kamath of Indian Academy of Paediatrics and other officials of government departments also attended the meeting.
