Thiruvananthapuram: Waking up late to the alarming spread of dengue and fever, the health department initiated a special training programme for doctors at the Medical College Hospital here. Doctors, PG doctors and resident doctors were given classes on latest updates by community medicine wing. The initiative was following a directive of health minister K.K. Shailaja, medical college spokesperson informed. The training focused on early diagnosis of various types of fever and initiating treatment as well as scientific treatment protocols that could minimise the fatality.
Deliberations were held on treatment protocol for patients arriving casualty with high fever and diagnosis of those in serious condition. The doctors observed that dengue fever in most of the patients could be treated without complications. However, there are many misconceptions about the disease. Its condition is determined not only by platelet count in blood.
Deliberations were also made on other contagious diseases like rat fever and malaria. The sessions of H1NI was conducted by H1N1 nodal officer Dr. Amar Fettle. Head of medicine wing Dr. Sreenath gave sessions on dengue and infectious diseases wing head Dr. Aravind took sessions on fever. Medical college principal Dr. Thomas Mathew inaugurated the training session.
