It was a celebration of Motherhood in the ‘Grand Baby shower’ with more than 50 ‘mothers-to-be’ participating in a fashion ramp walk. A video on fitness for mothers was exhibited.
Baby shower is an event to celebrate during pregnancy to welcome the unborn baby to the family and bless the mother-to-be with abundant joys of motherhood. In different states and languages, the celebration gets different names: in Hindi, ‘godh bharai’ literally means to fill the lap with abundance. In Bengal, it is known as ‘shaad’, in Kerala, ‘seemandham’ and here in Tamil Nadu ‘valakappu’.
The event created an opportunity for mothers-to-be to meet and build new bonds of friendship. A maternity photo shoot was arranged honouring the participants and to celebrate the transformation of a woman into a mother and to bless the future baby, providing them diet suggestions and physiotherapy tips too.
Motherhood, the women and children’s hospital and Lifecell organised the Grand Baby Shower at a city hotel. Speaking on the occasion, Vijaya Meenakshi, facility director of Motherhood, Chennai said, “We understand that many of our young mothers-to-be who are far away from their home town, sometimes miss out on the baby shower celebrations and in some family traditions, the baby shower is arranged only for the first pregnancy but for us – all babies are special and hence before the baby comes, we wanted to give the experience to all our mothers to make them feel at home — Let us celebrate every baby-on-the way and create some joyful memories at Motherhood”.
