Telangana: 40 students taken ill after taking iron tablets
Warangal: About 40 students of Telangana Minority Residential School at Shambhunipet in Warangal have taken ill on Thursday allegedly due to iron tablets that were given to them. According to the school authorities, the students were distributed iron tablets during a medical camp conducted by the District Medical and Health Department at the school on Monday. The students were told to take the tablets after having their lunch and dinner. But some students consumed the tablets after having their breakfast on Thursday and suffered from vomiting and diarrhea. The school authorities rushed the students to MGM Hospital for treatment. Their condition is said to be stable presently.
Warangal East MLA Konda Surekha, the DMHO Dr B. Harishraj and the district minority welfare officer Ratanaveera Chary visited the hospital and interacted with the students. Mr Chary said the overdose of the tablets might have caused trouble to the students. Meanwhile, several parents of the students who stay nearby rushed to the hospital on coming to know about the news. They complained that during breakfast students were served vada and its poor quality might be the reason for the students’ illness. However the authorities downplayed their allegations.
