Bengaluru united in fight against diabetes

To educate the public about the condition, Manipal Hospitals launched Blue Messenger and 7 S campaign on Tuesday.

Bengaluru: On Tuesday, the city geared up to spread awareness on diabetes. To educate the public about the condition, Manipal Hospitals launched Blue Messenger and 7 S campaign on Tuesday.

The campaign was flagged off by actress Amulya in the presence of Dr H. Sudarshan Ballal, chairman, Manipal Hospitals, and Dr Karthik Prabhakar, Consultant and HoD Diabetes and Endocrinology.

AyurVAID Hospitals launched a revolutionary, outcomes-driven ‘Treat to Target Diabetes (T2TD) Program’ based on classical Ayurveda chikitsa (medical management). The programme is the first of its kind which assures diabetics of 100% control over diabetes for a fixed cost.

Novo Nordisk organised a diabetes awareness drive at Vikasa Soudha in association with the Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association. The camp was attended by more than a thousand Secretariat employees who apprised themselves about diabetes. On the sidelines of the drive, former India cricketer Anil Kumble, Changing Diabetes ambassador, released the survey findings of the ‘Diabetes and Women’s Health’, conducted by Novo Nordisk in partnership with Kantar IMRB. A survey conducted by Astra Zeneca revealed that working women are more vulnerable to diabetes and hypertension than their male counterparts. Bengaluru police too conducted an awareness programme. Departments of Posts and health and family welfare together released a special cover on World Diabetes Day with the theme of the year –'Women and Diabetes – our right to a healthy future'.

“Diabetes can negatively impact the reproductive health of both men and women. Men who are diagnosed with diabetes are seen to have lower sperm count and semen volume, along with greater sperm DNA damage. In women, diabetes comes as a secondary condition associated with hormonal ailments like PCOS and hyperthyroidism, which introduce several challenges to conceive naturally and may also lead to complications during pregnancy,” said Dr Manish Banker, Director, Nova IVI Fertility.
