Chennai: Plastic surgery taken to another level
Chennai: Plastic surgery has evolved from just a beautification technique to a defined branch of medicine that deals with constructive surgery, reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. Doctors say that plastic surgery has a diverse nature and problem-solving ability, that impacts mental and physical health as well.
“Plastic surgery was earlier done primarily for aesthetic value, but it can greatly help in removing deformities which can ultimately boost the confidence of an individual and improves mental health,” says Dr V. Purshothaman, a plastic surgeon at Fortis Malar Hospital.
Government health department officials say that plastic surgery has now been taken to a higher level by providing reconstructive surgeries for free at government hospitals, especially for children.
“National Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery day should be observed to propagate the idea of constructive and reconstructive surgery, which is an important part of the medical field currently. The awareness should be brought among people about the rising standards of plastic surgery and its availability,” said an official from the Health Education Department, Greater Chennai Corporation.
Specialists mention that plastic surgery has a wide scope as various deformities can be curbed by different departments.
